Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.0.7

Published

HOCs for React Context Storage

Readme

react-context-storage

This is a very lightweight(~5kb) alternative to Redux store based on React Context API. Supports multiple storages, reducers, saving to LocalStorage and SessionStorage.

Installation

npm install react-context-storage

Requirements

React v^16.9.0

API

withStorageProvider

withStorageProvider(
{
  storageName: string, // Name of your storage
  defaultValues: object, // Default state of your storage
  reducer: (state: object, action: { type: string, value: any }) => object, // Reducer that takes in storage state, modifies it based on action type and returns a new state
  useSession: boolean, // Save storage to SessionStorage and retrieve it next time by storageName
  useLocal: boolean, // Save storage to LocalStorage and retrieve it next time by storageName
}
)(
  Provider: React.ComponentType // This component will provide Storage access to the child components
)

withStorage

withStorage(
  storageName: string
)(
  Consumer: React.ComponentType // Storage will be passed to this component via "context" prop
)

Usage

Please check out src/sample-app for a live demo.

import React from 'react';
import { withStorageProvider, withStorage } from 'react-context-storage';
import { INCREMENT_COUNTER } from './actions';
import { counterReducer } from './reducers';

const storageName = 'counter-storage';
const defaultValues = {
  counter: 0,
};
const useSession = true;
const useLocal = false;

/*
Consumer component that will have a "context" prop which contains:
  storage - storage object
  dispatch - function that dispatches an action which gets passed into reducer
*/
const Consumer = ({
  context: {
    storage: { counter },
    dispatch,
  },
}) => {
  const onClick = () => dispatch({ type: INCREMENT_COUNTER, value: 1 });
  return (
    <>
      <button type="submit" onClick={onClick}>
        Increment counter
      </button>
      <p>{`Counter value: ${counter}`}</p>
    </>
  );
};

/*
Wraps Consumer component with Storage.
*/
const ConsumerWithStorage = withStorage(storageName)(Consumer);

/*
Should be wrapped with Storage Provider.
*/
const App = () => (
  <>
    <h2>Counter App</h2>
    <ConsumerWithStorage />
  </>
);

/*
Wraps parent component with Storage Provider allowing using Storage in children components.
Pass in your reducer to handle actions dispatched in Consumer components.
*/
export const AppWithStorageProvider = withStorageProvider({
  storageName,
  defaultValues,
  reducer: counterReducer,
  useSession,
  useLocal,
})(App);
