Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Reflow is a wrapper for react components that gives you control over render updates. You are smarter than react. Only you know what really needs to update the UI.

Simple as that. Nothing more.

But why?!

1. There are many libraries out there that have a terrible rerender behaviour.

Fact.

2. Arrow function updates render

> (val) => this.setState({ name: val }) !== (val) => this.setState({ name: val })
> true

3. Event handler creator updates render

> const createHandlerFor = (property) => (value) =>  this.setState({[property]: value})
>
> createHandlerFor("username") !== createHandlerFor("username")
> true

4. Arrays

>   ["foo", "bar"] !== ["foo", "bar"]
> true

5. Config Objects

>   {borderColor: "red" } !== {borderColor: "red" }
> true

This issues in a massive overhead. A form usually doesn't have to rerender totally when the state changes.

Just wrap the component with Reflow and stop unnecessary render cycles.
