Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

NPM JavaScript Style Guide

Install

npm install --save react-keyboard-navigation-popup

Usage

Basic usage requires passing just a list of available actions.

import * as React from 'react'

import { ShortcutPopup } from "react-keyboard-navigation-popup";

class Example extends React.Component {
  render () {
    actions = [
      {
        label: "Create a reminder",
        image: "https://picsum.photos/id/1/200",
        onClick: () => console.log("Create a reminder")
      },
      ...
    ]
    return (
      <ShortcutPopup actions={actions} />
    )
  }
}

Available props

actions: MyAction[];

Required array of available actions. The ShortcutPopup component is generic and accepts a type argument for custom action types.

renderResultRow?: (result: MyAction & AddtionalResultProps) => Element;

Provide a custom component for rendering a single available action row. AddtionalResultProps provides a relevancy rating and a keyboard shortcut for selecting the option.

getSearchKeywordsForAction?: (action: MyAction) => string[];

If you want to search custom fields on the action object, provide a function that returns a list of keywords from a single action object.

onActionPress?: (action: MyAction) => void;

By default this function runs onClick from the action object, but you can also provide a custom handler based on the action fields.

getKeyShortcutForResult?: ActionKeyShortcut<MyAction>;

Override a key combination for selecting an action. ActionKeyShortcut is of type:

type ActionKeyShortcut<MyAction> = (result: {
  index: number;
  action: MyAction;
}) => { label: string; isPressed: (e: KeyboardEvent) => boolean };

Label is then returned in AddtionalResultProps as keyShortcut

getKeyShortcutForOpen?: KeyShortcut;

Override a key combination for opening the keyboard selection popup. (Cmd on mac, ctrl on other os + K by default) KeyShortcut is of type:

type KeyShortcut = () => {
  label: string;
  isPressed: (e: KeyboardEvent) => boolean;
};
getKeyShortcutForClose?: KeyShortcut;

Override a key combination for closing the keyboard selection popup. (Esc by default)

getRatingForKeywords?: (keywords: string[], searchQuery: string) => number;

Override the relevancy calculation algorithm for the set of keywords. By default it uses Damerau-Levenshtein on each pair of words from keywords, searchQuery.

showTopNResults?: number;

Show top N results from the actions list.
