Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

A responsive layout with react-native-reanimated's Animated.Views.

Installation

yarn add react-native-animated-layout

Make sure reanimated is installed already, it is a peer dependency. If not installed, follow its instructions as stated here.

Usage

In the below example 3 views are located in the screen depending on the layout. Width / Height ratio is used to identify the appropriate layout.

The library uses validAfterWHRatio, validBeforeWHRatio and defaultFlag keys to determine the valid layout for current Width / Height ratio.

Each item in the layouts array should have;

  • either validAfterWHRatio and validBeforeWHRatio keys together
  • or defaultFlag: true key-value.

When validAfterWHRatio and validBeforeWHRatio exists the layout is used when Width / Height ratio is between these values.

When validAfterWHRatio and validBeforeWHRatio do not exist, item with defaultFlag: true is used.

If no valid layout is found an exception is thrown.

Individual item details for the views array:

The value represents the position of the right edge of the view from left of the current screen. | | children | The content of the view that is placed responsively. | | notifyFunction | Callback when the related view is relocated. A json object with the top, right, bottom, left values is passed. Must be used catiously in order to avoid unintended rerender risks, ie. it should not initiate a chain of funtions that updates the props.rerender. It can cause unnecessary rerenders. |

Re-rendering logic

Since the layouts is an array, its value change does not automatically trigger a rerender. Although the explicit rerender parameter may help for some cases, it is quite important to make the initial design according to the needs. Not always you will want to render everything. So the appropriate method is to have different functional components and those components should track their own parameters for rerenders.

For example, referring to the above usage example, the following part:

can be refactored and improved as;
