Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React Native Console Overlay

React Native Console Overlay is a powerful, easy-to-use library that brings console logs directly to your device screen.

Say goodbye to the hassles of traditional debugging and hello to a more efficient & flexible development process 🎉

How to use

  • Viewing logs: Logs will automatically appear in the central area of the overlay.
  • Scrolling logs: Drag the central area of the overlay to scroll through the logs.
  • Moving the overlay: Drag the outer edges of the overlay to reposition it on the screen.
  • Minimizing: Tap the minimize button to collapse the overlay into a small, movable icon.

Features

  • Versatile on-device console logging:
    • Works on both simulators and physical devices
    • Compatible with Android and iOS platforms
    • Functional in both development and production builds
  • Support for common console methods (log, debug, info, warn, error, dir)
  • Draggable and resizable overlay
  • Minimizable interface
  • Customizable colors
  • Timestamp display option
  • Cross-platform compatibility (iOS and Android)

[!NOTE] While usable in production builds, including debug tools in production apps carries risks. Use in production at your own discretion.

Installation

npm install react-native-console-overlay
# or
yarn add react-native-console-overlay

Usage

Add the ConsoleOverlay component to your app's root component.

import React from 'react';
import { View } from 'react-native';
import { ConsoleOverlay } from 'react-native-console-overlay';

const App = () => {
  return (
    <View style={{ flex: 1 }}>
      {/* Your app content */}
      <ConsoleOverlay />
    </View>
  );
};

export default App;

It is useful to use flags to toggle visibility so that you can view logs whenever you want in the application.

import React from 'react';
import { View } from 'react-native';
import { ConsoleOverlay } from 'react-native-console-overlay';
import { consoleOverlayAtom } from '~/states/consoleOverlayState';

const App = () => {
  const [consoleOverlayState] = useAtom(consoleOverlayAtom);
  return (
    <View style={{ flex: 1 }}>
      {/* Your app content */}
      {consoleOverlayState.isConsoleVisible && <ConsoleOverlay />}
    </View>
  );
};

export default App;

Props

The ConsoleOverlay component accepts the following props:

| Prop | Type | Default | Description | | ------------------- | ------- | --------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | | showTimestamp | boolean | false | Show timestamp for each log entry | | textColor | string | 'white' | Color of the log text | | logBackgroundColors | object | See below | Background colors for different log types | | containerOpacity | number | 0.9 | Opacity of the overlay container | | fontSize | number | 12 | Font size of the log text | | lineHeight | number | 21.6 | Line height of the log text | | heightScale | number | 0.25 | Height of the overlay as a proportion of screen height (0.1 to 0.9) |

Default logBackgroundColors:

}

See source codes for more details.
