Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

react-native-dash-ota

v0.1.0

Over-the-air (OTA) updates for React Native: Ed25519-signed, AES-256-GCM, runtimeVersion-gated, crash-rollback.

react-native-dash-ota

Over-the-air (OTA) updates for React Native, done right: Ed25519-signed manifests verified in native, AES-256-GCM payloads, hardware device-key request auth, runtimeVersion gating, atomic apply on cold start, and crash-loop rollback. Part of dash-ota.

  • New Architecture (TurboModule, codegen DashOtaSpec, native module DashOta)
  • Android (Kotlin + Google Tink) · iOS (Obj-C++ + Swift CryptoKit)
  • Trust-critical work (verify / decrypt / hash / swap / rollback) runs in native, before and independent of JS — a compromised bundle can't bypass it.

📖 Full integration guide: https://github.com/Scripting-Bear/dash-ota/blob/main/docs/react-native.md

Installation

npm install react-native-dash-ota
cd ios && pod install

Requires React Native 0.79+ with the New Architecture enabled, and Hermes.

Usage

Per-flavour config (channel, server URL, embedded Ed25519 public key, runtimeVersion) comes from the native side so it can't be tampered from JS — see the guide for the Android resValue / iOS Info.plist setup and the MainApplication/AppDelegate bundle-loader hooks.

import { DashOtaProvider, useOtaUpdate } from 'react-native-dash-ota';

export default function Root() {
  return (
    <DashOtaProvider
      config={{
        appVersion: '1.4.0',
        storage,                          // your AsyncStorage / secure-storage adapter
        getEnrollToken: () => auth.getSessionToken(),
        checkOnAppForeground: true,
      }}
    >
      <App />
    </DashOtaProvider>
  );
}

function UpdateControls() {
  const ota = useOtaUpdate();
  // { status, currentBundle, availableUpdate, isMandatory, nativePolicy, progress, error,
  //   checkNow, applyUpdate, markHealthy, rollback }
  useEffect(() => ota.markHealthy(), []); // call once the app is genuinely usable
  return <Button title="Check for updates" onPress={ota.checkNow} />;
}

See the full guide for all config options, the lifecycle, mandatory/force-update, and the crash-loop breaker.
