Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

react-simple-signature

v1.0.3

Published

React signature pad component for touch/mouse with high-DPI rendering and export.

Readme

react-simple-signature

A lightweight React component for capturing, drawing, and exporting digital signatures on an HTML canvas. Supports touch, mouse, and stylus input for e-signature, signature pad, and handwriting capture in forms and apps.

Background

I built react-simple-signature to provide a minimal, easy-to-use solution for capturing signatures in React applications without dealing with HTML canvas complexity. It works seamlessly with both touch and mouse input, supports high-DPI displays for crisp rendering, and exposes a simple ref API for programmatic clearing. The component is unopinionated about styling, letting you integrate it into any design system, and it outputs image data in common formats without requiring deep canvas knowledge.

Installation

npm install react-simple-signature

Usage

import React, { useRef } from 'react'
import { SimpleSignature, type SignatureRef } from 'react-simple-signature'

function MyForm() {
  const signatureRef = useRef<SignatureRef>(null)

  const handleSignature = (blob: Blob) => {
    const url = URL.createObjectURL(blob)
    console.log('Signature URL:', url)
  }

  const handleClear = () => {
    signatureRef.current?.clear()
  }

  return (
    <>
      <SimpleSignature
        ref={signatureRef}
        onChange={handleSignature}
        width={500}
        height={300}
        strokeColor="#0a0"
        className="border border-gray-300"
        blobFormat="jpeg"
      />
      <button onClick={handleClear}>Clear</button>
    </>
  )
}

Props

| Prop | Type | Default | Description | |--------------|----------------------------------|-----------|---------------------------------------------------------------| | onChange | (blob: Blob) => void | — | Callback fired when the user modifies the drawing; receives a blob of the updated image | | onStart | () => void | — | Callback fired when the user starts drawing | | height | number | — | Canvas height in pixels | | width | number | — | Canvas width in pixels | | className | string | "" | Optional class name for styling the canvas | | blobFormat | "png" | "jpeg" | "png" | Format of the exported signature image | | strokeColor| `#${string}` | "#000" | Hex color for the signature stroke |

Note: A ref can be attached to access the SignatureRef with the clear() method.

Ref API

The component supports a ref so consumers can interact with it programmatically:

interface SignatureRef {
  clear: () => void
}

Use ref.current?.clear() to clear the canvas.

Example usage:

import { useRef } from 'react'
import { SimpleSignature, type SignatureRef } from 'react-simple-signature'

const sigRef = useRef<SignatureRef>(null)
sigRef.current?.clear()

Scripts

| Script | Description | |---------------|-------------------------------------------| | build | Type-check and build the project | | lint | Run ESLint | | lint-fix | Auto-fix ESLint issues | | test | Run all tests with Vitest | | dev:example | Start the example app in development mode |
