Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A observer-based state manager for React

Readme

react-store-light

A minimal reactive state manager for small React projects where you want simple shared state without overhead. This library is intentionally not a replacement for Redux, Zustand, or Jotai.

No providers. No context. No boilerplate.

Features

  • Observer-based state updates Components automatically re-render when a subscribed value changes.

  • Works with React hooks Built around a simple useStore(key) hook.

  • No Context / Provider required No wrapping your app, no extra layers.

  • Zero dependencies (except React) Nothing extra in your bundle.

  • Fully typed with TypeScript Strong typing for keys and values out of the box.

  • Can be used from JavaScript projects TypeScript is optional — works perfectly in JS ESM modules or single module CommonJS.

  • Supports multiple independent stores Create as many stores as you need — each one is fully isolated.

  • Tiny bundle size

Installation

npm install react-store-light

or

pnpm add react-store-light

API

  • createStore: (initData: T) Creates a new isolated store instance.

  • useStore: (key: K) => T[K] React hook that subscribes a component to a specific store key.

  • get: (key: K) => T[K] Reads the value by key.

  • set: (key: K, value: T[K], isCbCall?: boolean) => void Updates a value by key and calls listeners optional.

  • addListener: (key: K, listener: Listener<T[K]>) => void Registers a side-effect listener for a specific key.

  • removeListener: (key: K, listener: Listener<T[K]>) => void Removes a previously registered listener.

Quick Start

import { createStore } from "react-store-light";

const store = createStore({
  count: 0,
  theme: "light",
});

Using the store in React

function Counter() {
  const count = store.useStore("count");

  return (
    <button onClick={() => store.set("count", count + 1)}>
      Count: {count}
    </button>
  );
}

🔍 Reading and updating values outside React

const currentCount = store.get("count");

store.set("count", currentCount + 1);

Listening to changes (side effects)

Listeners are useful for reacting to state changes without triggering renders (e.g. syncing to localStorage, logging, analytics).

store.addListener("count", (key, value) => {
  console.log(`${key} changed to`, value);
});

store.removeListener("count", listener);

🗂 Multiple Stores Example

const authStore = createStore({
  isAuthenticated: false,
});

const settingsStore = createStore({
  theme: "dark",
});

Each store is completely independent and has its own state and subscriptions.
