Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React Web HOCs

A collection of small, reusable Higher Order Components (HOCs) for building React web apps

Table of Contents

Getting started

$ npm install react-web-hocs

APIs

renderWhen

Render related components conditionally

interface IRenderBranch {
  when(obj: any): boolean
  render: SFC<any> | 'NOTHING'
}
  • A common implementation to render a component
const MyComponent = props => {
  if (props.loading) {
    return <Loading />
  }
  if (props.errors) {
    return <Text>Something went wrong</Text>
  }
  if (equals(conditionA, true)) {
    return <ComponentA {...props} />
  }
  if (equals(conditionB, true)) {
    return <ComponentB {...props} />
  }
  ...

  return <View><MainComponent /></View>
}
  • Use renderWhen to keep only the main render and apply a pattern matching for sub-renders
import { renderWhen } from 'react-web-hocs'

const MyComponent = props => <View><MainComponent /></View>
const isLoading = props => {}
const hasErrror = props => {}
const isSomethingA = props => {}
const isSomethingB = props => {}
const enhance = renderWhen([
  {
    when: isLoading,
    render: Loading
  },
  {
    when: hasError,
    render: ErrorComponent
  },
  {
    when: isSomethingA,
    render: ComponentA
  },
  {
    when: isSomethingB,
    render: ComponentB
  }
])

export default enhance(MyComponent)

withLoadingCreator

Show a spinner conditionally as a replacement for the wrapped component (i.e while loading server data)

interface ILoadingOptions {
  predicate(obj: any): boolean
  component: SFC<any>
}
  • Create a higher order component withLoading
import { withLoadingCreator } from 'react-web-hocs'

import LoadingMask from '../../LoadingMask/LoadingMask.component'

const loadingPredicate = props => props.loading
const withLoading = withLoadingCreator({
  predicate: loadingPredicate,
  component: LoadingMask
})
  • Apply the HOC
const MyComponent = () => {...}

export default withLoading(MyComponent)

withUpdatingCreator

Show a spinner conditionally as an overlay over the wrapped component (i.e while updating server data)

interface IUpdateOptions {
  updates: string[]
  component: SFC<any>
  updatingStyle?: CSSProperties
}
  • Create a higher order component withUpdating
import { withUpdatingCreator } from 'react-web-hocs'

import LoadingMask from '../../LoadingMask/LoadingMask.component'

const withUpdating = withLoadingCreator({
  updates: ['updateUserPassword', 'logout'],
  component: LoadingMask
})

Whenever you call asynchronously a prop (i.e logout) that belongs to the update list updates, it'll show a spinner

  • Apply the HOC
const MyComponent = () => {...}

export default withUpdating(MyComponent)

withApp

interface IWithAppCreator {
  loadingComponent: SFC<any>
  loadingPredicate(obj: any): boolean
  updatingStyle?: CSSProperties
}
interface IWithApp {
  updates?: string[]
  renderWhen?: IRenderBranch[]
}
  • Create a higher order component withApp
import { withApp } from 'react-web-hocs'

import LoadingMask from '../../LoadingMask/LoadingMask.component'

const loadingPredicate = props => props.loading
const withApp = withAppCreator({
  loadingPredicate,
  loadingComponent: LoadingMask
})
  • Apply the HOC
const MyComponent = () => {...}

export default withApp({
  updates: ['logout'],
  renderWhen: [{
    when: hasError,
    render: ErrorComponent
  }]
})(MyComponent)
