Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

The fastest way to start working with React Context API

Reactjs-Context (reactjs-context) is a simple library made to easily work with React Context API; but why to use React Context API if Redux exists?

Well,

In other words: removing react-redux from our apps.

In smalls projects I saw myself repeating the same code over-and-over again so I decided to make it a little bit more reusable.

Content

Install

$ npm install reactjs-context
npm
$ npm install reactjs-context
yarn
$ yarn add reactjs-context
Github Registry
$ npm install abranhe@reactjs-context

Usage

import React from 'react';
import { Provider, Consumer } from 'reactjs-context';

const initialState = { counter: 0 };

const actions = (dispatch) => ({
  increment: () => dispatch({ type: 'increment' }),
  decrement: () => dispatch({ type: 'decrement' }),
});

const reducer = (state, action) => {
  switch (action.type) {
    case 'increment':
      return { counter: state.counter + 1 };
    case 'decrement':
      return { counter: state.counter - 1 };
  }
};

export default () => (
  <Provider initialState={initialState} reducer={reducer}>
    <Consumer>
      {({ state, dispatch }) => {
        const { increment, decrement } = actions(dispatch);
        return (
          <div>
            <h1>{state.counter}</h1>
            <div>
              <button onClick={() => decrement()}>-</button>
              <button onClick={() => increment()}>+</button>
            </div>
          </div>
        );
      }}
    </Consumer>
  </Provider>
);

Otherwise you can use connect() to access the global state via props.

import { Provider } from 'reactjs-context';
import Counter from './counter';

export default () => (
  <Provider initialState={initialState} reducer={reducer}>
    <Counter/>
  </Provider>
);

Inside counter.js

import { connect } from 'reactjs-context';

export default connect(({ context: {state, dispatch} }) => {
  const { increment, decrement } = actions(dispatch);

  return (
    <div>
      <h1>{state.counter}</h1>
      <div>
        <button onClick={() => decrement()}>-</button>
        <button onClick={() => increment()}>+</button>
      </div>
    </div>
  );
});

This is a simple demo demostrating the usage of reactjs-context with a countere demo.

Questions?

You can ask your question on Stackoverflow open a new issue, or DM me on Twitter @abranhe.

New features?

I will try to implement newReducer() or newAction() that instead of creating that ouside of the package, just add a new action and the action lives on a global object inside of the package. It will also have default actions: like reset(). Please don't laugh, this is just me writing down ideas to come back later.

Idea example:

import { newAction } from 'reactjs-context';

newAction({
  increment: () => {
    return dispatch({ type: 'increment' });
  },
});
