Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node Redis Messagepack Wrapper

Save messagepack (hex) representation of objects to redis when using node_redis

Breaking Changes

If you're using a version of node redis prior to v2.6.0 please use the v1.0.3 tag. node-redis introduced a changeset

Build Status

Build Status

Rationale

Our use case requires us to save json to the database (preferably in an encoded format that fast to encode/decode). As far as I can tell there isn't a way to make @mranney's node_redis implicitly convert objects and arrays to msgpack buffers before they are sent off to redis. So I would always to have to wrap my set and get calls with msgpack.encode/decode nonsense.

How

This module exports a function which when passed a RedisClient instance will proxy the send_command method and convert anything that is not a Buffer to and from messagepack. I considered modifying the RedisClient prototype automatically when this module is included in your project, but decided against it because you may not want this behavior on all of your redis clients.

Installation

with npm...

npm install redis-messagepack

or with git...

git clone git://github.com/conscia/node-redis-messagepack.git

example

var redis = require('redis'),
    serializer = require('redis-messagepack'),
    client = serializer(redis.createClient({return_buffers : true}), {
        serializer: function(args) {
            return msgpack.encode(args);
        },
        deserializer: function(args) {
            return msgpack.decode(args);
        }
    });

client.set('asdf', {
    foo: "bar"
}, function(err, result) {
    client.get('asdf', function(err, result) {
        console.log(result);
        // should be { foo : "bar" } and not [Object object]

        client.quit(function() {});
    });
});

Extras

var serializer = require('redis-messagepack');

//add somecommand to the blacklist
serializer.blacklist.push('somecommand');

//dump the blacklist to console
console.log(serializer.blacklist);

// this will prevent 1st & second params from be serialized
serializer.ignoreIndex([0,1]);

// this will prevent any argument matching the regex from being serialized
serializer.ignore("_.*"); // any string starting with an underscore will be ignored

Contributions

Most of the logic came from @wakdanker node-redis-jsonify library. Special thanks to him
