Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Handling of asynchronous request in Redux

redux-async-request-middleware

Handling of asynchronous request in Redux. You can create Redux Standard Async Action(RSAA) by createRSAA which will be catched by redux-async-request-middleware and then dispatches Flux Standard Action(FSA) after the asynchronous work done.

Installation

npm install --save redux-async-request-middleware

or use yarn

yarn add redux-async-request-middleware

Usage

configureStore.js

import { createStore, applyMiddleware } from 'redux'
import { reduxAsyncMiddleware } from 'redux-async-request-middleware'
import reducers from './reducers'

export default function configureStore(initialState) {
  const store = createStore(
    reducers,
    initialState,
    applyMiddleware(reduxAsyncMiddleware)
  )
  return store
}

api/user.js

import { createRSAA } from 'redux-async-request-middleware'

const getUserAPI = (id) => get(`api/user/get?id=${id}`)

export const getUser = createRSAA('@@user/getUser', getUserAPI)

UserComponent.js

import React from 'react'
import { connect } from 'react-redux'
import { getUser } from './user.js'

class UserComponent extends React.Component{
  state = {
    user: null,
  }
  componentDidMount() {
    const { getUser } = this.props
    getUser(123)
  }
  render() {
    const { user } = this.state
    return (
      <div>{user}</div>
    )
  }
}

const mapDispatchToProps = {
  getUser: getUser
}

export default connect(null, mapDispatchToProps)(UserComponent)

API

createRSAA

The createRSAA generates RSAA.

  • Methods

    • createRSAA(type, asyncFunction)(...asyncFunctionArguments)
  • Parameters

    • type(String): defines the unique type of the related async actions. e.g.: type_PENDING, type_RESOLVED, type_REJECTED
    • asyncFunction(Function): function which returns Promise
    • ...asyncFunctionArguments(arguments): arguments will call by asyncFunction

onResolved and onRejected receives response(orerror) and Redux Store's getState as arguments. They are usually used as callback function of the asynchronous work.

getMiddleActionTypes(type)

You can get each action type by getMiddleActionTypes with the paramter type which same passed to createdRSAA. This will be useful if you want to reduce the actions created by RSAA in redux reducers.

e.g.

const [
    pendingType,  // pending action's type
    resolvedType, // resolved action's type
    rejectedType, // rejected action's type
  ] = getMiddleActionTypes(type)
