Reforge UI MCP
MCP client for Reforge UI — a design system that gives Claude professional design taste, eliminating the "AI look" from generated frontends.
Setup
Add this to your Claude CLI config (.mcp.json or Claude Desktop settings):
{
"mcpServers": {
"reforge-ui": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "reforge-ui-mcp"],
"env": {
"REFORGE_API_KEY": "rf_live_your_key_here"
}
}
}
}Replace rf_live_your_key_here with your API key from reforgeui.com.
How It Works
This package connects Claude CLI (which speaks stdio) to the Reforge UI server (which speaks SSE). It runs as a lightweight proxy — no design system content is stored locally.
Once connected, Claude gets access to 9 design tools: themes, color palettes, typography pairings, component patterns, layout guidance, copy guidance, and a design audit that scores your output against 30+ anti-patterns.
Troubleshooting
"REFORGE_API_KEY environment variable is required"
Make sure your .mcp.json includes the env block with your API key.
Connection errors
Check that your API key is valid and starts with rf_live_. Test keys (rf_test_) only work in local development.
Tools not appearing in Claude
Restart Claude CLI after updating .mcp.json. The MCP server connection is established at startup.
