Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Remote Skills

Remote-skills: AI agent skills that are automatically discovered and downloaded when needed instead of being permanently included in the agent’s context.

Quick start

# Install remote-skills
npx remote-skills install

# Show current collection list
npx remote-skills config show collections

# (Optional)
# Replace the entire collection list
npx remote-skills config set collection collection-1 collection-2

# Add one collection
npx remote-skills config add collection collection-3

Skill Collections

  • You can add skills to your own collection and include collections from other users in your search scope.
  • To create or browse collections, visit:

Commands

Install

Install to all detected agent directories (codex, claude, gemini):

npx remote-skills install

Install only selected targets:

npx remote-skills install --gemini
npx remote-skills install --codex
npx remote-skills install --claude
npx remote-skills install --codex --claude

Uninstall

Remove from all detected agent directories:

npx remote-skills uninstall

Remove only selected targets:

npx remote-skills uninstall --gemini
npx remote-skills uninstall --codex --claude

Add Collection

npx remote-skills config add collection <id>

Install to Specific Directory

Copy skills/remote-skills into a specific directory:

npx remote-skills install <DIR>

Result path:

<DIR>/skills/remote-skills

Config Commands

Manage timeout, collection, and maxSkillCount: (config add collection <id> below is different from install <DIR> above.)

npx remote-skills config show [timeout|collections|maxSkillCount]
npx remote-skills config set timeout <ms>
npx remote-skills config set maxSkillCount <n>
npx remote-skills config set collection <id1> <id2> ...
npx remote-skills config add collection <id>
npx remote-skills config remove collection <id>

Config Target Resolution

  • For show/set/add/remove (and query execution), CLI searches from the current directory upward.
  • It uses the first skills/remote-skills/cli/cli.js it finds (including under .codex, codex, .claude, claude, .gemini, gemini).
  • Config updates are applied to that resolved installation's cli.config.json.
  • If no local installation is found, it falls back to the bundled CLI in this package.

How Install Root Detection Works

  • The CLI walks upward from the current working directory.
  • It picks the first parent directory containing at least one of:
    • .codex or codex
    • .claude or claude
    • .gemini or gemini
  • If nothing is found, it tries your home directory.
