Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

s3-recursive-download

Recursively download all objects from an S3 prefix into a local directory while preserving folder structure.

Key features

  • Minimal zero-dependency CLI using AWS SDK v3

Install

You can run this from a local checkout or using npx.

Local

npm install
node s3-download-directory-recursively.js --bucket my-bucket --prefix some/path/ --dest ./local-dir --region us-east-1

npx s3-recursive-downloader-cli --bucket my-bucket --prefix some/path/ --dest ./local-dir --region us-east-1

Usage

CLI flags (each also supports environment variables using uppercased names):

  • --bucket / BUCKET (required)
  • --prefix / PREFIX (optional, default: "")
  • --dest / DEST (default: ./s3-download)
  • --region / REGION (optional)
  • --profile / PROFILE (optional)
  • --concurrency / CONCURRENCY (optional, default: 5)

Examples

# download entire bucket
node s3-download-directory-recursively.js --bucket my-bucket --dest ./backups

# download a prefix with concurrency and profile
node s3-download-directory-recursively.js --bucket my-bucket --prefix path/to/folder/ --dest ./data --concurrency 10 --profile default

npx s3-recursive-downloader-cli --bucket my-bucket --dest ./backups
