Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

sabot

v0.0.11

Starter template for Hapi.js and React

Readme

Sabot

Lightweight starter kit for Hapi.js with React. Still under heavy development. As is provides a nice starting point for basic Dashboards using Bootstrap v3.

This will basically replace my existing hapi-base project when complete.

Status

Current Version 0.0.11

Version 0.0.11 is the latest posted to npm. Basically everything is in place and sample charts from D3RRC are being used to show off some very simple API usage details. Search works and returns any log message that contains the search expression (as a regular expression) in either the msg or url members.

###Version 0.0.11+

Page routing is now done with the History API, window.location.hash or fallback to hard routing (same as History API in look). Routers automatically fixup links when they come from one type to another. As an example if the browser supports History API but gets /#/logs/request it will reform the location in the browser to /logs/request. Same is true for History API/Default Routing to Hash based routing.

Demo

A demo of the current stable version running with an in memory DB limited to 1000 + startup log entries can be viewed at http://sabot.aws.af.cm/

This is just an example of what Sabot looks like out of the box, once you clone the repo you should make it look and feel the way you need.

Why?

Really there isn't an existing React+Hapi starter, so I built one. Sabot seemed like a good name since it means a thin wrapper around a projectile to create a higher delivery efficiency. That is the overall goal of Sabot, provide a thin wrapper over the top of React and Hapi to provide a good starting point.

But you used...

Yes, Sabot ships with Bootstrap, Bunyan, and other stuff. This is all optional, you don't have to actually use any of it and can simply npm --save remove it if you don't want it. Feel free to make it your own.

Goals

  • Server side rendering of routes
  • Routes auto provided to both Socket.io and HTTP

Version History

  • 0.0.11 - Remove page.js and switch to internal router
  • 0.0.10 - Introduce start of a better router, add in AutoSizeTextArea component
