Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Overview

The Express Backend CLI (npx say-express-app) is a command-line tool designed to quickly scaffold an Express.js backend with TypeScript. It provides following templates:

  • Basic Template: A simple Express.js + TypeScript setup.
  • Standard Template: An Express.js + TypeScript setup, configured with packages used for writing quality code.
  • Auth Template: Standard template that includes authentication features.

This tool allows developers to generate a backend boilerplate without cloning a GitHub repository, keeping all templates within the NPM package.

Installation

You can use npx to run the CLI without installing it globally:

npx say-express-app

Or install it globally:

npm install -g say-express-app

Usage

Run the CLI with:

npx say-express-app my-express-app

You will be prompted to choose between:

  • Basic Template
  • Standard Template
  • Auth Template

Alternatively, you can specify the template directly:

npx say-express-app my-express-app --template basic
npx say-express-app my-express-app --template standard
npx say-express-app my-express-app --template auth
