Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Scoped Var

This is a sass library that enables to limit the scope of custom properties(which is called CSS Variable) to :host.

Demo

https://nontangent.github.io/angular-scoped-var-demo/

source: https://github.com/nontangent/angular-scoped-var-demo

Install

$ npm i -D scoped-var

Usage

Normal Mode

If you want to let custom properties scoped in :host, you should add @use 'scoped-var' as *; to the top of .scss file.

@use 'scoped-var' as *;

:host {
  // Define host scoped variable by `@mixin property($name, $value)`
  @include property(--color, red);
}

:host {
  // Use host scoped variable
  color: var(--color);
}

The above code will compiled as below.(@@@@@@@@ is random characters.)

:host {
  --color: red;
  --color-SCOPED-IN-@@@@@@@@: var(--color);
}

:host {
  color: var(--color-SCOPED-IN-@@@@@@@@);
}

In this case, you can override :host scoped custom property in first-child and second-child from parent component.

// parant.component.scss
@use 'scoped-var' as *;

:host {
  @include property(--color, blue);
}

:host {
  first-child {
    --color: #{var(--color)};
  }

  second-child {
    --color: #{var(--color)};
  }
}

Strict Mode

If you use scoped-var as non strict mode, this library does not raise error when you use undefined variable in :host.

@use 'scoped-var' as *;

:host {
  color: var(--color);
  // this code is compiled as below. not changed.
  // color: var(--color);
}

If you want to prohibit the use of variables that are not defined in the scope, you should use @use 'scoped-var/strict' as *;.

@use 'scoped-var/strict' as *;

:host {
  color: var(--color);
}

In this case, you failed to compile and compiler throw following error.

SassError: `var(--color)` scoped in `9unvsa3y` is not defined`

If you use external property in strict mode, you should use @mixin external-property($name).

@use 'scoped-var/strict' as *;

:host {
  @include external-property(--color);
}

:host {
  color: var(--color);
}

In this case, no error was thrown.
