Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

screenmarker

v0.2.4

Published

Paste a screenshot, annotate it with arrows/boxes/text/pen/highlight, and copy the flattened image back to the clipboard.

Readme

screenmarker

Paste a screenshot, annotate it, copy it back to your clipboard. That's the whole workflow.

No accounts, no uploads — everything runs in your browser and nothing leaves your machine.

Quick start

npx screenmarker

Starts a local server and opens the app in your browser. Paste a screenshot (Cmd/Ctrl+V), mark it up, and copy the result back out (Cmd/Ctrl+C) to paste into Slack, a PR comment, a doc — anywhere that accepts an image.

Features

  • Annotate with rectangles, arrows, text labels, freehand pen, and highlight — each with adjustable color and stroke width (or font size for text)
  • Select and edit any shape after drawing it: move, restyle, or delete
  • Multi-page documents — add multiple screenshots as tabs, reorder them by dragging, and copy/export them together as one stacked image or individually
  • Paste, drag-and-drop, or file picker to load images
  • Copy to clipboard or download as PNG, plus a preview of exactly what will be copied
  • Save/load as a document file (JSON) to resume annotating later
  • Undo/redo, zoom, and light/dark/auto theme
  • Keyboard-driven: tool shortcuts (v select, r rect, a arrow, t text, p pen, h highlight), [/] for stroke or font size, ,/. to reorder pages, arrow keys to switch pages, Cmd/Ctrl+S/O to save/load

Deploying to the web

The client is a static, self-contained app (no server-side logic — the local Node server just serves static files and auto-opens a browser tab). It can be hosted anywhere that serves static files.

This package ships a Cloudflare Pages setup:

./deploy.sh

This builds the client and deploys dist/client to Cloudflare Pages under the project name screenmarker, logging you in via browser the first time.

Local development

npm install
npm run dev # watches and rebuilds the client + server
npm run build # production build
npm start # build + run the local server
