Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Self-contained MCP server for Sepia — a personal knowledge-graph memory server. Talks to the Sepia REST API (SEPIA_URL + SEPIA_API_KEY); stdio or HTTP transport.

Readme

sepia-mcp

A self-contained MCP server for Sepia — your personal knowledge-graph memory server. It exposes the same 7 tools as the Sepia server (wake, manage_namespace, manage_entity, manage_relation, manage_memory, search, prune_memories), but every call is proxied to the Sepia REST API. No database, no migrations — just a lightweight MCP wrapper.

Install

npm install -g sepia-mcp # or run directly with npx

Usage

stdio (default — for Claude, VS Code, etc.)

export SEPIA_URL=https://sepia.fly.dev
export SEPIA_API_KEY=your_token # the server's MCP_BEARER_TOKEN or an API key
sepia-mcp

Or with npx:

npx sepia-mcp

MCP client config:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "sepia": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["sepia-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "SEPIA_URL": "https://sepia.fly.dev",
        "SEPIA_API_KEY": "your_token"
      }
    }
  }
}

http (self-host on Fly.io / any Node host)

export SEPIA_URL=https://sepia.fly.dev
export SEPIA_API_KEY=your_token
sepia-mcp --http # serves Streamable HTTP at /mcp on PORT (default 8484)

Environment variables

| Variable | Default | Description | | --------------- | ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------- | | SEPIA_URL | https://sepia.fly.dev | Base URL of the Sepia server | | SEPIA_API_KEY | (required) | Bearer token (server's MCP_BEARER_TOKEN) | | SEPIA_SOURCE | sepia-mcp | Client name recorded as the memory source | | PORT | 8080 | Port for --http mode |

Tools

The tool surface matches the Sepia server exactly — same names, same schemas, same instructions contract. All calls hit SEPIA_URL/api/* with Authorization: Bearer $SEPIA_API_KEY.

Development

bun install
bun run build # bundles to dist/index.js
bun run check   # type-check

Publishing

Versioning is handled by Changesets and publishing by the .github/workflows/release.yml GitHub Action, which runs on every push to main touching packages/sepia-mcp/**, packages/shared/src/**, or .changeset/**. It auto-creates a patch changeset if one is missing, so every edit to the package ships a new npm version — keeping the MCP in lockstep with the app. Publishes use npm provenance (OIDC) for supply-chain attestation.
