Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

the sun of knowledge (shams al-ma'arif) is one of the most revered historical grimoires of the arabic corpus. feared by some, hallowed by others, it is one of the most famous - or infamous - books in the arabic-speaking and islamicate world.

the author of the sun of knowledge (shams al-ma'arif) was a sufi mystic and sage of algerian origin in egypt in the thirteenth century. he was an alchemist of distinction, and had many followers who are mentioned throughout the book. the book, which is clearly the product of a gifted and learned author, expounds upon a vast amount of arabic-islamic magical and esoteric tradition, as well as many other historical and religious matters. the book itself appears to have had an influence on the french alchemist, roger bacon, who in his de mirabilibus refers to the sun of knowledge as one of the primary sources that can be used to achieve the alchemical goal of producing aureate gold. the book was widely published in its own day, and many valuable manuscripts have survived, many of which have been used as a basis for this present work.

the book is written in black ink on parchment and contains arabic, hebrew, latin, and persian. the book’s author, shams al-mara’if al-kubra, or the “sun of wisdom,” was one of alchemy’s most noted scholars, who studied in alexandria and damascus. his main work was a comprehensive manual of alchemy entitled hilaliyat al-anwaar fi ma’arif al-mara’if. another work by him was the kitab al-battar, which was written in 1023 and contains a variety of alchemical recipes, including a preparation of a poison to be used by the king of india, siyar al-mulakkani. shams al-ma’arif al-kubra is the first volume of a two-part work, the second being shams al-ma’arif al-sughra or the book of talismans. volume one of this two-part work was published by faber and faber in london in 1946, and has been reprinted numerous times by various publishers, as well as appearing in several books on occult subjects. this book is the only one of the two-part work that has not yet been republished. 84d34552a1
