Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Shed

A calm place to keep agent & CLI tools current.

Mac app: Download · Site: useshed.vercel.app · CLI: npx shed-cli

Brand: olive / cream / charcoal (assets/shed-icon.png). npm package is shed-cli (the name shed is taken); the binary is still shed.

Not on the Mac App Store — Shed must run brew/npm/agent update commands outside Apple’s sandbox. GitHub Releases is the storefront.

Install

Menu bar (macOS 14+)

  1. Download Shed-*-macos-arm64.zip from Releases
  2. Move Shed.app → /Applications
  3. Right-click → Open, or xattr -cr /Applications/Shed.app && open -a Shed
  4. Requires Node.js 20+ on your PATH

CLI

npx shed-cli status
npx shed-cli check
npx shed-cli update

From this repo:

npm install && npm run build
node dist/shed.js status
npm run app    # native menu bar + embedded CLI

Config

Tracked tools live in ~/.shed/config.json. Each tool needs id + update; optional detect / latest / github / policy. Onboarding never silently adds tools.
