Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Simplify-dev

About package:

React library for speeding up creation of interfaces.

It includes UI components stylized with tailwindcss and a set of some commonly used hooks. The main feature of the project is the changeability of library styles out of the box. Styles are applied to components directly in your project using preset and plugin with prepared default values and utilities that can be changed in tailwind configuration file.

Read documentation

Quick start:

1. Init your project

As example used vite react app

npm create vite@latest my-app --template react-ts

2. Install packages and init config files:

Install simplify-dev, tailwindcss and its peer dependencies, then generate your tailwind.config.js and postcss.config.js files.

npm i simplify-dev
npm i -D tailwindcss postcss autoprefixer
npx tailwindcss init -p

3. Setup configuration

Configure your tailwind.config.js:

Add the paths to all of your template files in your tailwind.config.js file.

import {tailwindSimplifyPlugin, tailwindSimplifyPreset} from "simplify-dev";

/** @type {import('tailwindcss').Config} */
export default {
  content: [
    "./index.html",
    "./src/**/*.{js,ts,jsx,tsx}",
    "./node_modules/simplify-dev/**/*.{js,ts}" // styling simplify-dev components
  ],
  theme: {
    extend: {
        // your configuration
    },
  },
  plugins: [tailwindSimplifyPlugin],
  presets: [tailwindSimplifyPreset]
}

You can see that we add simplify-dev files to tailwindcss content. This is done to simplify the customization of components via tailwind.config.js

4. Add the Tailwind directives to your CSS

Add the @tailwind directives for each of Tailwind’s layers to your ./src/index.css file.

@tailwind base;
@tailwind components;
@tailwind utilities;

5. Start your build process

Run your build process with npm run dev.

npm run dev

6. Start using simplify-dev in your project

Example:

export default function App() {
  const [count, setCount] = useState(0)

  return (
    <Box as="section" className="flex flex-col items-center justify-center gap-5 min-h-screen">
      <Box className="flex justify-center">
        <Button as="a" buttonType="text" href="https://vitejs.dev" target="_blank">
          <img src={viteLogo} alt="Vite logo" width="120px" />
        </Button>
        <Button as="a" buttonType="text" href="https://react.dev" target="_blank">
          <img src={reactLogo} alt="React logo" width="120px" />
        </Button>
      </Box>
      <Typography as="h1">Project with simplify-dev</Typography>
        <Button variant="reject" className="w-[300px]" onClick={() => setCount((count) => count + 1)}>
          count is {count}
        </Button>
        <Typography>
          Edit <code>src/App.tsx</code> and save to test HMR
        </Typography>
      <Typography>
        Click on the Vite and React logos to learn more
      </Typography>
    </Box>
  )
}
