Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Smogon

Use this MCP server to competitive Pokemon, full dex data plus monthly Smogon usage statistics.

Quick start

npm install
npm run build
node dist/index.js

The server uses stdio, so it can be connected to Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, MCP Inspector, or another compatible MCP client.

Tools at a glance

  • search_pokemon: Search the full national dex by name (fuzzy). Returns types, base
  • get_pokemon: Get one Pokemon by exact name.
  • get_usage_stats: Monthly Smogon usage stats for a format, e.g. gen9ou (OverUsed),
  • list_months: List the months with published Smogon usage statistics.

Limits and privacy

This project is intentionally narrow. It should be treated as a practical helper, not a complete certification or security audit. Check the implementation and the returned data before using it with sensitive material. No credentials are required unless the project explicitly says otherwise.

Try it

After building, connect the server through your MCP client. The repository root also contains smoke-test.mjs for projects covered by the shared harness. A typical tool call starts with search_pokemon.

Premium tools

These tools need a license key:

Buy a key at https://mcp-marketplace.io/server/io-github-mrfentmen-smogon-mcp and set it in your MCP client config:

The key is checked against MCP Marketplace, cached for 24 hours, and keeps working offline once one check has succeeded. Every other tool on this server stays free.
