Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Render snapblocks in React

snapblocks-react

Render snapblocks in React!

Installation

npm install snapblocks snapblocks-react
# or
yarn add snaphblocks snapblocks-react

Note that in addition to the snapblocks-react package, you must have snapblocks installed (and react).

Usage

Simple

import SnapBlocks from "snapblocks-react"

function MyComponent() {
  return (
    <SnapBlocks blockStyle="snap">
      {`
        when green flag clicked
        forever {
          move (10) steps
        }
      `}
    </SnapBlocks>
  )
}

Dynamic

In this example, the user can edit the Scratch code.

import SnapBlocks from "snapblocks-react"

function MyComponent() {
  const [code, setCode] = useState("move (10) steps")

  return (
    <div>
      <textarea
        value={code}
        onChange={(event) => setCode(event.target.value)}
      />
      <SnapBlocks blockStyle="scratch3">{code}</SnapBlocks>
    </div>
  )
}

Non-English Languages

import SnapBlocks from "snapblocks-react"

// Load some extra languages (English comes loaded by default)
import snapblocks from "snapblocks"
import es from "snapblocks/locales/es.json" // Spanish
import de from "snapblocks/locales/de.json" // German

// Register the language files with snapblocks
snapblocks.loadLanguages({ es, de })

function MyComponent() {
  return (
    <SnapBlocks
      blockStyle="scratch3"
      languages={["en", "es", "de"]} // Choose which languages to allow
    >
      {`
        when green flag clicked
        por siempre
          gehe (10) er Schritt
        fin
      `}
    </SnapBlocks>
  )
}

Available Props

| Name | Default | Valid Values | Description | | ------------- | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | blockStyle | "snap" | "snap", "snap-flat", "scratch2", "scratch3", or "scratch3-high-contrast" | Changes the visual style of the rendered blocks. | | languages | ["en"] | An array of language codes such as ["en", "de"] | Enables the use of non-english languages. Requires additional setup. | | wrap | {true} | {true} or {false} | Enables block wrapping. | | wrapSize | {null} | {number} or {null} | Set block wrap size. | | zebraColoring | {true} | {true} or {false} | Enables zebra coloring. | | inline | {false} | {true} or {false} | Write snapblocks inline in text. This is not recommended. |

Unfortunately I don't know how to pass all properties, such as className and style onto the resulting element without running into an error with the custom properties, so this does not support those properties. If you would still like to use them, wrap the <SnapBlocks> component in a container, or even a wrapper component.
