Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

socium

v1.4.3

Published

Cross-platform installer and local runtime manager for Socium.

Readme

Socium CLI

The socium npm package installs and runs the localhost application without Docker, Python, uv, pnpm, or a source checkout. Node.js 20.9 or newer is the only prerequisite.

npx -y socium@latest onboard

The onboarding command selects the release bundle for the current operating system and CPU, verifies its published SHA-256 checksum, installs the immutable runtime under the operating system's application-data directory, initializes a separate durable data directory, starts the FastAPI and Next.js processes on loopback, and opens the console.

Commands

npx -y socium@latest onboard
npx -y socium@latest onboard --data-dir "D:\\Socium\\data" --models-dir "D:\\Socium\\models"
npx socium start
npx socium doctor
npx socium update
npx socium update check
npx socium backup create
npx socium backup list
npx socium rollback
npx socium autostart enable
npx socium storage move --data-dir "E:\\Socium\\data" --models-dir "E:\\Socium\\models"
npx socium uninstall --yes

--data-dir selects the durable location for SQLite, its WAL, master.key, media, logs, exports, and backups. --models-dir independently selects the usually much larger local-AI model location. Updates retain both choices. onboard --autostart enables start-after-login; --no-shortcuts skips native shortcuts. Updates create a checksum-backed data backup and migration health check before activation. Stop Socium before backup restore or storage move; both preserve the replaced/source directory until you confirm the result.

If a configured data drive is disconnected, Socium reports Data drive unavailable and does not create a blank database at a fallback path. The dashboard reports category usage, free space, and warnings for low-space, removable, network, or cloud-synced locations.

Uninstall preserves the SQLite database, encryption key, media, and exports by default. Add --purge-data only when that local business data should be permanently removed.

Docker Compose remains an optional deployment path and is not required by this CLI.
