Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Get a Spotify oauth access token quickly and easily via your command line

Readme

Spotify CLI Authentication

A tiny helper tool that can be used to quickly fetch a Spotify access token from with the command line.

Installation

$ npm install -g spotify-oauth-cli

Usage

To retrieve an access token run the following command:

$ spotify-access-token

This will open the Spotify Login dialog in your default browser. After confirming, the window will close itself and if successful, you should see an access token in your console.

Options

Several options are available when running the spotify-access-token command. Two are required: clientId, and clientSecret

ClientId and ClientSecret

You can obtain your clientId and clientSecret by creating an application on the Spotify Developer Dashboard.

The --clientId and --clientSecret options are required to authenticate your application.

example:

$ spotify-access-token --clientId <REDACTED> --clientSecret <REDACTED>

Redirect URI options

By default, the redirect URI will be set to http://127.0.0.1:4815/callback (Spotify doesn't allow http for localhost.). If you need something different or more secure, you can change this, with the --redirectUri option followed by your desired URI, or specify the PROTOCOL, HOST, and PORT.

examples:

$ spotify-access-token --clientId <REDACTED> --clientSecret <REDACTED> --redirectUri https://your-proxied-url.com/callback

$ spotify-access-token --clientId <REDACTED> --clientSecret <REDACTED> --protocol https --host your-proxied-url.com --port 443

Scope

The --scope option can be used to specify the scopes you wish to access. For ease of use, this tool will by default request access to ALL available scopes, so use this option to limit that.

Enter the scope as a comma separated list.

$ spotify-access-token --scope user-read-private,playlist-modify-private --clientId <REDACTED> --clientSecret <REDACTED>

Show Dialog

Add the --showDialog flag to prevent the Spotify Login dialog from automatically granting the request after you've already logged in once. Add this flag if you want to switch Spotify user.
