Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.3.0

Stagewright CLI: record narrated product walkthroughs on your machine or in any CI, report them to Stagewright, and run the MCP server for coding agents.

Readme

stagewright

Record narrated product walkthroughs from YAML, on your machine or in any CI. The same file is the video and an end-to-end check: when a PR breaks the flow, the run fails with the video and the screen it failed on.

npx stagewright init # .walkthroughs/example.yaml and stagewright.config.ts
npx stagewright doctor # checks Chromium and ffmpeg; --install adds Chromium
npx stagewright record .walkthroughs/example.yaml

No account needed. The video lands in .stagewright/out/<id>/final.mp4, with captions, chapters, a poster and a Playwright trace.

# .walkthroughs/invite.yaml
id: invite-a-teammate
title: Invite a teammate
steps:
  - id: open
narration: Team settings list everyone in your workspace.
    actions:
      - goto: /settings/team
    expect:
      - visible: 'role=heading[name="Team"]'
  - id: invite
narration: Type their email and send the invite.
    actions:
      - fill: { target: 'role=textbox[name="Email"]', value: [email protected] }
      - click: 'role=button[name="Invite"]'
    expect:
      - visible: text=Invite sent

Your app

  • baseUrl in stagewright.config.ts points at it: localhost, a dev instance or a preview deploy.
  • stagewright auth saves a signed-in session (sign in by hand once; SSO and MFA work).
  • The Stagewright plugin gives Claude Code and Codex skills, commands and the MCP server: /plugin marketplace add stagewright-ai/plugins, then /plugin install stagewright@stagewright (Codex: codex plugin marketplace add stagewright-ai/plugins). For other agents, stagewright skills add and stagewright mcp (claude mcp add stagewright -- npx stagewright mcp).
  • stagewright import playwright tests/x.spec.ts converts an existing test.

With Stagewright

stagewright login, then stagewright run reports runs (visual diffs against the approved baseline, approvals, publishing to your help center), and stagewright ci does the same in GitHub Actions, GitLab or Buildkite with a PR comment and check.

Needs Node.js 22.18 or newer and ffmpeg. stagewright help lists every command; questions to [email protected].
