Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Interactive CLI to list and delete stale git branches. Shows each branch's age, merge status, and last commit — then lets you delete them all in one session, local and remote.

xevrion.github.io/stale-branches

demo

Features

  • Branch table — age, merge status, last commit shown before the interactive prompt
  • Merged pre-selected — safe defaults; unmerged branches shown in red and require an extra confirmation
  • Local + remote — cleans up both in one pass, asks per-branch or use --remote to skip prompts
  • Protected branches — never touches main, master, develop, dev, staging, production, or your current branch
  • Command injection prevention — branch names are sanitized before any git call
  • --dry-run — preview exactly what would be deleted without touching anything
npx stale-branches

Install

# Run without installing
npx stale-branches

# Or install globally
npm install -g stale-branches

Usage

# Interactive mode — shows all non-protected branches
stale-branches

# Only show merged branches
stale-branches --merged

# Only show branches older than 30 days
stale-branches --days 30

# Preview what would be deleted without actually deleting
stale-branches --dry-run

# Delete remote branches without asking
stale-branches --remote

Flags

| Flag | Description | |------|-------------| | --merged | Show only merged branches | | --dry-run | Print what would be deleted, don't delete anything | | --days <n> | Only show branches older than n days (default: 0) | | --remote | Delete remote branches automatically without confirmation |

Behaviour

  • Protected branches — never shown or touched: main, master, develop, dev, staging, production, and your currently checked-out branch
  • Merged branches — pre-selected by default (safe to delete)
  • Unmerged branches — shown in red, not pre-selected, require an extra confirmation prompt
  • Remote deletion — asked once for all selected branches that have remotes, unless --remote is passed
  • Branch names — sanitized before passing to git to prevent command injection

Requirements

  • Node.js >= 20
  • Git
