Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Fumadocs Looks For Starlight

starlight-fumadocs

A premium, high-fidelity Starlight theme that brings the modern, architectural look and feel of FumaDocs to your Starlight documentation.

Features

  • Fluid Spring-Based TOC: A high-performance Table of Contents indicator using spring-physics for a "stretchy" natural feel. Includes directional "lead dots" that intelligently switch positions based on scroll direction.
  • Premium Search UI: A custom-engineered search interface with Astro-inspired aesthetics, smooth transitions, and theme-aware styling.
  • Architectural Sidebar Rails: Vertical hierarchy connectors with active-state accent bars for a clean, structural navigation experience.
  • Minimal Mobile Popover: A streamlined mobile TOC bar with circular scroll-progress tracking and a clean, responsive dropdown.
  • Compact Architectural Layout: Optimized vertical whitespace and reduced gaps between title, breadcrumbs, and content for a professional, high-density reading experience.
  • Unified Design System: All components are mathematically linked to global design tokens like --fuma-radius and leverage Tailwind CSS for styling.
  • Full Theme Support: Pixel-perfect parity across both Light and Dark modes with curated, high-contrast color palettes.

Prerequisites

This theme requires Tailwind CSS to be installed and configured in your Astro project.

npx astro add tailwind

Installation

# Using npm
npm install starlight-fumadocs

# Using pnpm
pnpm add starlight-fumadocs

# Using yarn
yarn add starlight-fumadocs

Usage

  1. Configure the plugin in your astro.config.mjs file:
import { defineConfig } from 'astro/config';
import starlight from '@astrojs/starlight';
import starlightFumadocs from 'starlight-fumadocs';

export default defineConfig({
  integrations: [
    starlight({
      title: 'My Documentation',
      plugins: [
        starlightFumadocs(),
      ],
    }),
  ],
});

Configuration

You can customize the theme's core aesthetics using CSS variables in your global stylesheet:

:root {
  /* Change the global border radius */
  --fuma-radius: 12px;

  /* Customize the glide indicator color */
  --glide-indicator-color: var(--sl-color-accent);

  /* Adjust the sidebar rail visibility */
  --glide-track-color: var(--sl-color-gray-4);
}
