Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A Svelte rich text editor component

Readme

Rich Text for Svelte

A rich editor, different than most others, because in it's object representation it separates the text from the formatting. It is aspiring to become the most minimalistic most customizable rich-text-editor of all time.

It's bundle size is only 8.1 kB!

!!! Attention the editor is not production ready and still contains some known bugs !!!

Demo

The Demo can be found at: sveltehack.maxelia.com

Usage

Install the package:

npm install svelte-rich-text
# or yarn, pnpm, etc.

Import the components you need:

<script>
	import { RichEditor, html } from 'svelte-rich-text';

	let startContent = [
        {
            type: 'h1',
            text: "Rich's favourite rich-text-editor",
        },
        {
            type: 'p',
            text: "This rich editor is different than most others.",
            format: [
                {
                    start: 20,
                    end: 29,
                    i: true,
                },
            ],
        },
    ];
</script>

<RichEditor content={startContent} />

The html export is a svelte store which is constantly updated. This can be handy if clean html has to be exported.

In order to use it use it like any other svelte store:

<script>
    import { RichEditor, html } from 'svelte-rich-text';

    html.subscribe((value) => {
        // do something with the html value
    });
</script>
<div>
    {@html $html}
</div>

Docs

Unlike most other available rich-text-editors, which constantly split up text in small chuncks on format changes, this one simply stores the text separately from the formatting and only updates the format in the object representation without triggering a re-render of the DOM inside the editor.

The object representation is an array of TextNodes which each have a type and a text.

export type TextNode = {
    type: 'h1' | 'h2' | 'h3' | 'h4' | 'h5' | 'h6' | 'p' | 'ul' | 'ol' | 'blockquote' | 'code' | 'hr';
    text: string;
    format?: FormatSection[];
};

The format property is an array of FormatSections which each have a start and end index and a format.

export type FormatSection = {
    start: number;
    end: number;
} & { [key in HtmlFormat]?: boolean | undefined };

export type HtmlFormat = 'b' | 'i' | 'code' | 'u' | 'span' | 'a' | 'img';
