tabby-process-notify
A Tabby terminal plugin that shows a system notification when a terminal emits an OSC 9 notification sequence or a BEL character (e.g. when a watched remote command exits).
Features
- OSC 9 notifications — parses
ESC ] 9 ; <message> BEL(orESC \) sequences and shows the message as a system notification. - Bell notifications — rings on standalone
BEL(0x07) characters, ignoring BELs that only terminate other OSC sequences (e.g. title changes). Bell notifications are debounced (1s). - Split tab support — watches every terminal pane inside split tabs, including tabs restored on startup.
- Smart activation — by default only notifies when the tab is not focused or the window is not in the foreground (
onlyWhenInactive). - Click to focus — clicking a notification brings the Tabby window to the front and activates the originating tab (and its parent split tab).
Installation
Copy or link this folder into your Tabby plugins directory (~/.tabby/plugins), then restart Tabby.
Configuration
Settings live under processNotify in Tabby's config (~/.tabby/config.yaml):
processNotify:
enabled: true # master switch
notifyOnBell: true # also notify on BEL characters
onlyWhenInactive: true # only notify when the tab/window is not focusedUsage
Any command that prints an OSC 9 sequence triggers a notification, for example:
# long-running command; notify when it finishes
./my-long-task.sh; printf '\e]9;Task finished\e\\'Or simply rely on the bell:
./my-long-task.sh; printf '\a'Build
npm install
npm run build # or: npm run watchLicense
