Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

tecs.js

tecs.js is a simple JavaScript library for creating a basic Entity-Component-System (ECS) game framework. It allows you to organize and manage game entities, components, systems, and the game world efficiently.

Table of Contents

Introduction

tecs.js provides the core components required to implement the ECS pattern in your JavaScript game or simulation. It includes classes for defining entities, components, systems, and the game world.

The library is damn small (just over 100 lines of clean code) and uses fairly simple and straightforward code.

Getting Started

To get started with tecs.js, you can follow these steps:

  1. Get library:

    Download tecs.js library from release page.

  2. Include the Library:

    To use tecs.js in your project, include the tecs.js file in your HTML:

    <!-- Standard version -->
    <script src="tecs.js"></script>
    <!-- Minify version -->
    <script src="tecs.min.js"></script>
    <!-- For ES Module -->
    <script type="module" src="tecs.esm.js"></script>
  3. Create Your Game Logic:

    Start defining your game entities, components, systems, and the game world using tecs.js classes.

  4. Enjoy Building Your Game:

    With tecs.js, you can easily structure your game code using the ECS pattern, making it more organized and efficient.

Usage

Here's a brief example of how to use tecs.js:

// Use as ES Module
import {World, System, Chain, Component} from "./tecs.esm.js"

// Create a new world
const myWorld = new World("My Game World");

// Create entities and add components to them
const entity1 = myWorld.createEntity();
entity1.addComponent(new Component("Position"));
entity1.addComponent(new Component("Renderable"));

// Create a system
class MySystem extends System {
    execute(world) {
        // Your custom system logic here
    }
}
const mySystem = new MySystem("Custom System");

// Add the system to the chain
const systemChain = new Chain(myWorld);
systemChain.push(mySystem);

// Execute systems on the world
systemChain.execute();

You can build upon this basic structure to create more complex game logic using the ECS pattern.
