Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

terra-mcp — Google Drive + Sheets MCP server

Read/write access to your Google Drive and Sheets. OAuth + PKCE login — only the public client ID ships in npm, consent happens in browser, token is cached and auto-refreshed.

Quick start

npm install -g terra-mcp-google
terra-mcp auth login # browser consent, caches token
terra-mcp client codex # print safe (read-only) MCP config
npx skills add quangtd-kozocom/terra-mcp-google # install the agent skill

CLI

| Command | Does | | --- | --- | | auth login / logout / status | sign in / out / show account, scopes, expiry | | setup | check config dir + auth, print MCP config for all clients | | client [codex\|claude\|copilot\|kiro\|all] | print MCP config with mutating tools disabled (--include-dangerous keeps them) | | admin | open the web console to manage which resources the agent may access (-p port, --no-open) | | (no command) | start the stdio server |

Configuration

Set these in your MCP client's env block (or the launching shell):

| Variable | Default | Purpose | | --- | --- | --- | | TERRA_MCP_DIR | ~/.terra-mcp | Directory holding the OAuth client config + cached token | | GOOGLE_OAUTH_TOKEN | <TERRA_MCP_DIR>/token.json | Cached access/refresh token | | TERRA_MCP_SAFE_MODE | unset | 1 → register only read-only tools; drop every mutating tool | | TERRA_MCP_POLICY_DB | <TERRA_MCP_DIR>/policy.db | SQLite database holding the resource allowlist + policy mode | | TERRA_MCP_POLICY_MODE | read_open | Initial mode before one is chosen in the console: off | read_open | strict | | TERRA_MCP_ADMIN_PORT | 4717 | Port the admin web console listens on |

Permission gate (per-resource allowlist)

Beyond on/off tool gating, you can allowlist exactly which Drive files/folders the agent may touch, and with what power (read / write / delete). Every call is checked against a small local SQLite allowlist first; created resources are auto-added. Manage it in the web console:

terra-mcp admin # web console at http://localhost:4717

Three modes (switch any time): off — gate disabled; read_open (default) — read/create anything, but write/delete only granted resources; strict — only granted resources are visible at all (even to list/search). New grants default to read-only; a folder grant cascades to its contents. Console and server share the DB, so changes apply on the next call — no restart.

Requires Node 23.4+ (or Node 22.5+ with --experimental-sqlite). On older Node the server still runs with the gate disabled.

Tools

Auth — sign-in/out are CLI-only (terra-mcp auth login/logout).

| Tool | Does | | --- | --- | | google_auth_status | show signed-in account, granted scopes, token expiry |

Drive

| Tool | Does | | --- | --- | | drive_list_files | list / search files (Drive q query, pagination) | | drive_get_file | get file metadata by ID | | drive_download_file | download or export content (Google-native files → csv/txt/pdf/…) | | drive_create_folder | create a folder | | drive_upload_file | upload inline text or a local file | | drive_update_file | rename, move, or replace content | | drive_copy_file | duplicate a file | | drive_delete_file | trash (default) or permanently delete |

Sheets

| Tool | Does | | --- | --- | | sheets_create_spreadsheet | create a spreadsheet | | sheets_get_spreadsheet | list tabs and their dimensions | | sheets_read_range | read one A1 range, or many at once (pass an array of ranges) | | sheets_write_range | overwrite values in one A1 range, or many at once (pass data) | | sheets_append_rows | append rows after the last row of a table | | sheets_clear_range | clear values in a range | | sheets_add_sheet / sheets_delete_sheet | add / remove a tab | | sheets_format_cells | format a cell range (colors, bold, font size, alignment) | | sheets_set_data_validation | set a dropdown (list) rule on a range | | sheets_batch_update | escape hatch: raw spreadsheets.batchUpdate requests (merge, borders, sort, …) |
