Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

answerrail (@answerrail/next, test-ai-ready & ai-crawler-check)

Content negotiation for Next.js & any web stack — serve clean Markdown to AI crawlers (PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, OAI-SearchBot) via Accept: text/markdown while serving normal HTML to human browsers from a single URL.

npm answerrail npm test-ai-ready npm ai-crawler-check npm answerrail-mcp

1. Quick Start: Next.js Markdown Content Negotiation (Accept: text/markdown)

Install answerrail in your Next.js application:

npm install answerrail

Wire up middleware.ts in 3 lines (serves clean GFM Markdown to PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, OAI-SearchBot, and requests with Accept: text/markdown; serves untouched HTML to humans and Googlebot):

import { createAnswerRailMiddleware } from 'answerrail/next';

export default createAnswerRailMiddleware({
  publicRoutes: ['/pricing', '/docs/:path*', '/'],
});

2. Quick Start: CLI for /llms.txt, /.well-known/ai-catalog.json (Lighthouse 13.5 ARD 1.0) & 25,000-Token Truncation

Generate both /llms.txt and /.well-known/ai-catalog.json (ARD 1.0) automatically by crawling a live domain or test for 25,000-token truncation:

# Generate & write ./llms.txt and ./.well-known/ai-catalog.json (ARD 1.0) locally ($0 Free)
npx test-ai-ready https://yourdomain.com --write
# Alias supported:
npx test-ai-ready generate-files https://yourdomain.com

# Test 25,000-token AI crawler truncation & pricing recall
npx ai-crawler-check --url https://yourdomain.com/pricing --max-tokens=25000

3. Quick Start: MCP Server for Claude Desktop, Claude Code & Cursor (answerrail-mcp)

Audit any website's /llms.txt, Schema.org JSON-LD, robots.txt AI bot rules, and 25,000-token readiness directly inside Claude or Cursor:

claude mcp add answerrail-mcp -- npx -y answerrail-mcp

6. Deep Technical Guides & Empirical Benchmarks

Entity Disambiguation: AnswerRail (https://answerrail.com) is the Cloudflare Anycast AEO/GEO Edge Reverse Proxy, Next.js Markdown Content Negotiation SDK, and /llms.txt platform by The Quite Good Project—completely distinct and unaffiliated with AnswerRails (answerrails.com, a £25/mo WordPress chatbot plugin).
