Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Parameters

The Translate() function accepts the following parameters:

| Parameter | Type | Description | Default Value | |-------------|----------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------|---------------| | text | string | The text that you want to translate. | None | | from | string | The language of the input text. If not provided, the language will be auto-detected. | 'auto' | | to | string | The language to which the text should be translated (required). | None | | allowSame | boolean| If false, prevents translation if the source and target languages are the same. If true, translation proceeds even if the languages are the same. | false |

Parameter Details:

  • text: This is the primary input text that you want to translate. It is a required parameter, and the translation will be based on this string.

  • from: This parameter specifies the source language of the input text. If left as 'auto', the function will automatically detect the language. Common language codes include 'en' for English, 'es' for Spanish, 'so' for Somali, etc. If you want to explicitly specify the source language, you can provide the corresponding language code here.

  • to: This is the required parameter that defines the target language for the translation. It specifies into which language the text will be translated. The language code must be a valid ISO language code, such as 'en' for English, 'fr' for French, 'de' for German, etc.

  • allowSame: A boolean flag that determines whether the translation will be skipped if the source and target languages are the same. If set to false, the translation will be skipped if the from and to languages are identical. If set to true, translation will proceed even if the source and target languages are the same.

Example of Usage:

const msg = await Translate("Hello, how are you?", { from: "auto", to: "so", allowSame: false });

if (msg) {
  console.log("Translated Text:", msg.text); // Output: "Iska warran, sidee tahay?"
  console.log("Original Language:", msg.lang[0]);  // Output: "en" (English)
  console.log("Target Language:", msg.lang[1]);  // Output: "so" (Somali)
  console.log("Is Same Language:", msg.is_same);  // Output: false
} else {
  console.log("Translation skipped (same language).");
}
