Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

threenative-blender-mcp

An MCP server that drives an already installed Blender headlessly, so a .fbx, .blend, .obj or .dae an agent downloaded becomes a GLB a ThreeNative game can load.

It contains no Blender, downloads no Blender, and links against nothing from Blender. Installing it costs zero Blender bytes.

Tools

| Tool | What it answers | | --- | --- | | blender_status | Can this machine convert models at all? Never fails — with no Blender it returns available: false and the install command for each platform. |

Finding Blender

In order, first match wins:

  1. THREENATIVE_BLENDER_PATH — an explicit path. Set but unresolvable is its own reported cause, never a silent fallback to a different Blender.
  2. PATH.
  3. The platform's conventional install locations (/usr/bin, /snap/bin, a macOS Blender.app, C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\…).

A Blender older than 4.2 reports available: false with cause: "blender-too-old" rather than being driven with scripts written against a newer bpy.

Blender is never installed for the user. npm postinstall has no TTY and cannot ask, and 350 MB is not an install cost this framework imposes without consent — so the server reports what is missing and the agent asks in conversation. THREENATIVE_TOOLCHAIN_AUTOINSTALL=0 suppresses even the offer.

Licensing

Blender is GPLv2-or-later. This package holds the boundary in two places:

  • The binary is resolved, never bundled, linked, imported or vendored. ThreeNative spawns blender --background; it is a separate process.
  • The Node server is MIT. Every Python file that runs inside Blender against bpy lives under gpl/, carries an SPDX-License-Identifier: GPL-2.0-or-later header, and sits beside gpl/LICENSE.GPL. __tests__/licensing.spec.ts fails on a gpl/*.py without that header and on a .py that appears anywhere else in this package.

What this is not

ThreeNative drives Blender as a separate process. It never reimplements modelling, sculpting, shading, rigging or rendering, ships no geometry-authoring UI, and adds no bpy feature. When Blender is absent the framework says so and does less; it never substitutes.
