Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Trust grades + policy gate for MCP servers and APIs — let any AI check a tool before it connects, and let CI fail when a tool turns hostile.

toolproof-mcp

Let your AI check every tool before it connects to it.

This is the Toolproof trust scanner packaged as an MCP server. Add it once to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP client, and the AI gets two tools:

  • check_tool(target) — returns a letter grade (A+ … F), the verification state, and every finding for an MCP server or API: hidden instructions, exposed secrets, unsafe defaults, missing auth. The tool's output includes guidance for the AI: if the grade is below B, tell the user and ask before connecting.
  • lookup_rule(rule_id) — explains a flagged rule (e.g. TP-101) in plain words your AI can repeat to you.

Zero dependencies. Talks to the hosted scanner; nothing runs locally except the protocol.

Install

Claude Desktop / any generic MCP config:

{ "mcpServers": { "toolproof": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "toolproof-mcp"] } } }

Claude Code:

claude mcp add toolproof -- npx -y toolproof-mcp

The npm package is public. Add the configuration above, and your MCP client will run it through npx when needed.

Example

"Check mcp.context7.com/mcp before you connect to it."

The AI calls check_tool, then reads back:

TOOLPROOF VERDICT — mcp.context7.com
grade: A+ (100/100) · state: verified · kind: mcp
Clean scan — no agent-hijack patterns found.
  + HTTPS enforced
+ Server instructions captured and reviewed
review card: https://toolproof-scan.vercel.app/t?target=…

No install and just want the rule? See the one-line agent rule.

Published package

Install from npm with npx -y toolproof-mcp; no global install is required.
