Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

tr-plugin-design

White-label Total Recall design plugin: synthesizes and renders custom, on-brand sites, UI components, and layouts using canonical DESIGN.md tokens and frontier generative LLMs.

Status: implementation in progress; token library exists and prompt-engine work is in the worktree, but the CLI currently reports scaffold-only and generation/validation/UI remain unfinished. See docs/projects/ for the audit, PRD, architecture, development plan and tracker.

Install into a Total Recall brain: total-recall plugin install <git url of this repo>. State lives in vault/ as SSSS documents (npm test replays the SSSS conformance fixtures and round-trips the vault).

Readiness reconciliation — 2026-09-30

Canonical correction plan. No fresh suite was run against this external repository HEAD during the documentation review. Run npm test and configured gates on the Mac mini in a bounded background job. The Total Recall central preview is unwired static UI and is not an operational demonstration of this plugin.

  • PIC-048: cli.mjs:8 has empty IMPLEMENTED; generation is inaccessible. src/designer.mjs is an untracked worktree addition, defaults a hardcoded model at line 27 and resolves keys only from env at line 210.
  • PIC-049: src/validator.mjs is absent; markup validation, brand/contrast enforcement and export are unfinished. Central DesignPreview.tsx:96 shows a static palette unrelated to project tokens.

Durable capability state must use validated SSSS operations. Delivery requires a real clean-install command/UI walkthrough, explicit unavailable/error states and actual result provenance. Tests may use synthetic fixtures; shipped capability behavior may not.

Use it two ways

This plugin is a reusable brick, so a new project does not start from zero.

Add it to a project (for apps you build and ship). From the project directory:

total-recall plugin vendor https://github.com/gregiteen/tr-plugin-design.git

This copies the plugin's source, skills, tests and docs into bricks/design and records it in tr-bricks.json. Your project then owns that code: edit it, test it in your own gates, and ship it with no runtime dependency on this plugin or on Total Recall. Combine as many bricks as the project needs. List them with total-recall plugin bricks.

Use it directly with Total Recall (for your own machines and workflow). Install it with total-recall plugin install https://github.com/gregiteen/tr-plugin-design.git and run total-recall design. Manage its credentials with total-recall auth secret and its skills with total-recall skill.
