Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

tuimsg

v0.1.0

Messages.app TUI over BlueBubbles

Readme

imsg

A terminal Messages window for a Mac running BlueBubbles. The npm package is tuimsg. The command is imsg.

Install

Install Bun 1.3.14 or newer and put it on your PATH. The launcher is a Bun script. Node cannot run it.

Start BlueBubbles on the Mac.

npx tuimsg

Or install the command:

npm install -g tuimsg
imsg

npx imsg is a different package. Use npx tuimsg.

Setup

On first launch, enter the BlueBubbles server address and password. A bare address uses HTTP on port 1234. Use a full https:// URL for TLS or a different port.

imsg writes ~/.config/imsg/config.json and stores the password in macOS Keychain. Run npx tuimsg --setup to change the server. After a global install, that is imsg --setup.

On Linux it uses Secret Service (GNOME Keyring or KWallet). If that is unavailable, you can save the password in the config file (0600, not encrypted) or keep it for this session only.

The BlueBubbles API puts the password in the request query string. Use HTTPS when the server is not on localhost.

For scripts, set IMSG_PASSWORD and optionally IMSG_URL (default http://127.0.0.1:1234). IMSG_CONFIG selects a different config file.

Run

npx tuimsg
npx tuimsg --setup
npx tuimsg --fake
npx tuimsg --help

If you installed globally, those are imsg, imsg --setup, imsg --fake, and imsg --help.

npx tuimsg uses the saved login. --setup changes the server. --fake uses demo data and does not need BlueBubbles. Press ? for keys. Quit with q or Ctrl+C. Copy uses OSC 52. Attachments save on the computer running imsg.

Reactions, typing indicators, and mark-read need the BlueBubbles Private API helper. Send and receive work without it.

Drafts and unfinished sends live in ~/.config/imsg/sessions/.

From a checkout

bun install
bun run imsg --fake
bun run imsg

Publish

npm publish

You need an npm account that can publish tuimsg. Bun must be on PATH so prepack can build dist/cli.js.
