Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

typed-mdx

v0.1.2

Published

`typed-mdx` is heavily inspired by [Contentlayer](https://contentlayer.dev/) and [Astro Content Collection](https://docs.astro.build/en/guides/content-collections/).

Readme

typed-mdx

typed-mdx is heavily inspired by Contentlayer and Astro Content Collection.

It comes from the frustration that Contentlayer is not maintained anymore (and wanted to do too much as we only want to support md and mdx ) and there is no other alternative to Astro Content Collection for Next.js.

Installation

npm install typed-mdx zod @next/mdx @mdx-js/loader @mdx-js/react @types/mdx remark-frontmatter
yarn add typed-mdx zod @next/mdx @mdx-js/loader @mdx-js/react @types/mdx remark-frontmatter
pnpm add typed-mdx zod @next/mdx @mdx-js/loader @mdx-js/react @types/mdx remark-frontmatter

Usage

In a Next.js application, create a src/content folder. Then, create a collections.ts.

We will define our collections in that file:

import { defineCollection } from "typed-mdx";
import { z } from "zod";

const collections = {
  blog: defineCollection({
    folder: "blog",
    schema: z.object({
      title: z.string(),
      publishedAt: z.string().transform((str) => new Date(str)),
      tags: z.array(z.string()).optional(),
      author: z.string(),
    }),
  }),
} as const;

export default collections;

You can define as many collection as you want. Then, in the file you want to use your collection, import the exported object and use it in your components:

import collections from "@/content/collections";

export default async function Page() {
  const posts = await collections.blog.getAll();

  return (
    <ul>
      {posts.map((post) => (
        <li key={post.title}>
          <Link href={`/blog/${post.metadata.slug}`}>
            {post.title} {post.author && <>by {post.author}</>}
          </Link>
        </li>
      ))}
    </ul>
  );
}

To show the MDX content, please note that it works with the @next/mdx package. Setup the next.config.mjs:

// Only support ESM so next.config.mjs
import remarkFrontmatter from "remark-frontmatter";
import createMDX from "@next/mdx";

/** @type {import('next').NextConfig} */
const nextConfig = {
  // Configure `pageExtensions` to include MDX files
  pageExtensions: ["js", "jsx", "mdx", "ts", "tsx"],
};

const withMDX = createMDX({
  options: {
    // To remove frontmatter from rendering
    remarkPlugins: [remarkFrontmatter],
  },
});

export default withMDX(nextConfig);

If you are using the Next.js app router, you'll need mdx-component.tsx file at the root of your project.

import type { MDXComponents } from "mdx/types";

export function useMDXComponents(components: MDXComponents): MDXComponents {
  return {
    ...components,
  };
}
