Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Install globally with npm:

npm i -g unsplash-svc

Usage

Usage:
    unsplash-svc prepare
    unsplash-svc install [-d DIR] [-t TIME]
    unsplash-svc ( start | restart | stop | remove | info )
    unsplash-svc ( -h | --help )

Options:
    -h, --help              help for unsplash-svc
    -d, --directory DIR     destination directory for images [default: ~/Pictures/Unsplash]
    -t, --time TIME         minutes between image change

Commands:
    prepare                 prepare system for running the service (do this FIRST!)
    install                 install the service
    start                   start the service
    restart                 restart the service
    stop                    stop the service
    remove                  remove the service
    info                    information about the service

Arguments:

What is it

Updates the Mac Desktop Wallpaper with images from Unsplash. It installs an OSX daemon that can be started and stopped from the cli.

By default, it installs pictures in ~/Pictures/Unsplash. Each picture is deleted before downloading the next one.

Instructions

To start the service:

> unsplash-svc prepare              # Follow the instructions
> sudo unsplash-svc install -t 10   # Updates every 10 minutes
> sudo unsplash-svc start

To stop, restart and remove the service, use the appropriate commands.

Information about the running daemon

You can query information about the daemon with

> sudo unsplash-svc info

You can also check the daemon's log in console.app; look for the entry:

/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Unsplash Updater
