Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Kairos — an autonomous AI coding agent that lives in your terminal.

Readme

Kairos

Kairos is an autonomous AI coding agent that lives in your terminal — in the spirit of Claude Code, but bring-your-own-provider. Point it at Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, Cerebras, DeepSeek, Gemini, Mistral, Cohere, Ollama, or OpenRouter, and it plans, edits files, runs commands, tests, and iterates, right where you already work.

npx kairos

That's it. No servers, no database, no config file to write by hand.

What it does

  • Plans and executes multi-step coding tasks autonomously
  • 64 built-in tools: file I/O, search/replace across a repo, git, shell commands, linting/formatting, tests + coverage, dependency inspection, and more (kairos --list-tools)
  • 10 providers, switchable mid-session (kairos --list-providers)
  • Diff-first editing — changes are staged and previewed, not blind overwrites
  • Project memory — remembers what worked (and what didn't) across a session
  • Works entirely in-memory by default; point DATABASE_URL at a Postgres instance if you want history to persist across restarts — totally optional

Install

npm install -g kairos

or just run it on demand with npx kairos, no install required.

Usage

kairos # interactive session
kairos "refactor the auth module" # one-shot task
kairos -p groq -m llama-4-scout "explain this repo"

On first use, set an API key for your provider:

export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=sk-...
# or, inside a session:
/key sk-...

In-session commands

| Command | What it does | |---|---| | /help | show all commands | | /provider <name> | switch provider | | /model <name> | switch model | | /key <value> | set the API key for the current provider | | /dir <path> | change working directory | | /tools | list every tool the agent can call | | /status | show current provider, model, directory | | /clear | clear the screen | | /exit | quit |

CLI flags

-p, --provider <name> provider to use
-m, --model <name> model to use
-k, --key <value> API key for the chosen provider
--list-tools list every tool the agent can call
--list-providers list every supported provider + model
-v, --version print the version number

Providers

| Provider | Tool calling | |---|---| | anthropic | ✓ | | openai | ✓ | | groq | ✓ | | cerebras | ✓ | | deepseek | ✓ | | gemini | ✓ | | mistral | ✓ | | openrouter | ✓ | | cohere | text-only | | ollama | text-only, local |

Config and API keys are stored locally at ~/.kairos/config.json.
