AI Agent Integration
viban ships with a SKILL.md file that instructs AI agents (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to track their work on the Kanban board in real time as they complete tasks — so you can see exactly what your agents are doing without having to ask.
Installing SKILL.md
Copy SKILL.md into any project where you want agents to track their work. Agents pick it up automatically when it is present in the project root.
# From the viban-cli repo
cp SKILL.md /path/to/your/project/SKILL.mdOr download it directly into your project:
curl -o SKILL.md https://raw.githubusercontent.com/vlucas/viban-cli/main/SKILL.mdHow It Works
Once SKILL.md is in your project, an AI agent working in that directory will:
- Create a viban task when it starts a unit of work
- Move it to
in_progresswhen it begins - Move it to
in_reviewwhen it needs your attention - Mark it
donewhen complete
Run viban board at any time to see a live view of what your agents are doing.
Data Storage
viban stores all data in a local SQLite database at ~/.viban/db.sqlite. You can override this with the VIBAN_DB environment variable.
