Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vite plugin to include HTML partial files

Readme

Vite Plugin for modHTML

modHTML stands for modular HTML. It is a set of web components and plugins that ease the management of HTML by allowing to decompose an HTML webapp into smaller chunks.

This Vite plugin replaces <modhtml-include src="path"><modhtml-include/> tags with the contents of the HTML file referenced by the src attribute. Note that the src attribute is a path relative to the location of the file where the <modhtml-include> element appears. Referenced files can in turn include other files, recursively. Circular inclusions are detected and generate an error.

Usage

First add the plugin to your package.json, in the devDependencies section, e.g. with NPM:

npm install vite-plugin-modhtml --save-dev

Then, add the plugin to your Vite configuration file:

// vite.config.js (or .ts)
import ...
import modhtml from 'vite-plugin-modhtml';
import ...

export default defineConfig({
    ...
    plugins: [
        ...
        modhtml(),
        ...
    ],

})

Now you can use the tag in an HTML file.

For instance:

<!-- index.html -->
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">

<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8" />
    <title>modHTML Demo</title>
</head>

<body>
    <modhtml-include src="hello.html"></modhtml-include>
</body>

</html>

<!-- hello.html -->
<h1>Hello World!</h1>

The src attribute can be absolute or relative.

  • It is absolute if it begins with a /. In this case the root is where the index.html sits.
  • Else, it is relative. In this case it is relative to the including file path at build time.

Avoid putting your included HTML files in the public folder as they would be included in the distribution by Vite. A good practice is to put your included files in a /partials folder (and organize them in subfolders if you wish). In this case, in the example above, we would rather have <modhtml-include src="/partials/hello.html"></modhtml-include>

Then after running your vite build script, your dist folder will contain the following file:

<!-- index.html -->
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">

<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8" />
    <title>modHTML Demo</title>
</head>

<body>
    <h1>Hello World!</h1>
</body>

</html>

You can also use vite dev to directly see the result. The page will refresh automatically if you change any of the included files.
