Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

vite-plugin-open-in-editor

Vite plugin to open files directly in your code editor from frontend DevTools (Alt+Click).
Fully compatible with Qwik, Vite, Astro, and similar frameworks that support __open-in-editor URLs.

⚠ Current supported editors

Cursor
VSCode
❌ Other editors are not yet supported.


💻 Supported Operating Systems

✅ Windows 11 (fully tested)

✅ Linux

The plugin uses simple CLI calls under the hood, so as long as your OS can launch your editor from terminal, it will work.

🔧 Installation

npm install vite-plugin-open-in-editor --save-dev

🚀 Usage

Inside your vite.config.ts:

// You can use either import syntax:
import openInEditor from "vite-plugin-open-in-editor";
// OR
import { openInEditor } from "vite-plugin-open-in-editor";

export default defineConfig({

    openInEditor({
      editorBin: "cursor", // use 'code' for VSCode

  • editorBin: command line binary to open your editor.
    • For Cursor → 'cursor'
    • For VSCode → 'code'
  • log: (optional) prints debug logs in terminal.
