Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

vmojifast

npm version npm downloads GitHub repository License: MIT

An unstyled, composable emoji picker for Vue 3, powered by Emojibase.

Repository: github.com/yan-ad/vmoji

Install

npm install vmojifast

Usage

Import each component directly from vmojifast:

<script setup lang="ts">
import { ref } from "vue";
import {
  EmojiPickerActiveEmoji,
  EmojiPickerList,
  EmojiPickerRoot,
  EmojiPickerSearch,
  EmojiPickerSkinToneSelector,
  EmojiPickerViewport,
  type Emoji,
  type SkinTone,
} from "vmojifast";

const skinTone = ref<SkinTone>("none");
function insertEmoji({ emoji }: Emoji) {
  console.log(emoji);
}
</script>

<template>
  <EmojiPickerRoot v-model:skin-tone="skinTone" :columns="8" @emoji-select="insertEmoji">
    <EmojiPickerSearch placeholder="Search emoji" />
    <EmojiPickerViewport class="picker-viewport">
      <EmojiPickerList>
        <template #emoji="{ emoji }"
          ><span>{{ emoji.emoji }}</span></template
        >
      </EmojiPickerList>
    </EmojiPickerViewport>
    <EmojiPickerSkinToneSelector />
    <EmojiPickerActiveEmoji v-slot="{ emoji }">{{ emoji?.label }}</EmojiPickerActiveEmoji>
  </EmojiPickerRoot>
</template>

Recent, custom, and controlled search

<script setup lang="ts">
import { ref } from "vue";
import {
  EmojiPickerList,
  EmojiPickerRoot,
  EmojiPickerSearch,
  EmojiPickerViewport,
  type CustomEmoji,
} from "vmojifast";

const search = ref("");
const recentEmojis = ref<CustomEmoji[]>([{ emoji: "🎉", label: "party popper" }]);
const customEmojis: CustomEmoji[] = [{ emoji: "<:shipit:123>", label: "Ship it", id: "shipit" }];
</script>

<template>
  <EmojiPickerRoot
    v-model:search="search"
    :recent-emojis="recentEmojis"
    :custom-emojis="customEmojis"
  >
    <EmojiPickerSearch />
    <EmojiPickerViewport><EmojiPickerList /></EmojiPickerViewport>
  </EmojiPickerRoot>
</template>

Search accepts localized labels, English labels/tags, and Emojibase shortcodes such as :grinning_face:. Custom emoji rendering stays headless—use the EmojiPickerList #emoji slot to render application-specific image or markup.

All components are deliberately unstyled. Target the vmojifast-* attributes to style them.

EmojiPickerRoot props: locale, columns, sticky, skin-tone, search, recent-emojis, custom-emojis, recent-label, custom-label, emojibase-url, and emoji-version. It emits emoji-select, update:skin-tone, update:search, and error. EmojiPickerList supplies loading, error, empty, category, row, and emoji slots.

Reliable emoji data loading

By default, data is loaded from version-pinned Emojibase mirrors in order: jsDelivr, then unpkg. If jsDelivr is unavailable, the picker automatically retries unpkg. Host a copy yourself to remove external CDN dependency entirely:

<EmojiPickerRoot emojibase-url="/emoji-data/[email protected]" />

For several internal/CDN mirrors, pass an ordered array; each source must expose /{locale}/data.json and /{locale}/messages.json:

<EmojiPickerRoot :emojibase-url="['https://emoji.example.com', '/emoji-data']" />

Data helpers findEmoji, getEmojiLabel, searchEmojis, loadEmojiData, clearEmojiDataCache, and DEFAULT_EMOJIBASE_URLS are exported for custom integrations.
