Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

VOORA / ARIA CLI

Minimal but functional OpenCode-style CLI agent.

What it does

  • accepts a natural language task from the CLI
  • calls the InferX Gemma model through the required endpoint
  • plans work in short steps
  • reads, writes, and patches files
  • runs shell commands
  • supports a modular brain prompt directory in aria/brain/
  • keeps rolling session memory for recent steps
  • supports large multi-file tasks with higher token and step limits
  • validates frontend output with Playwright DOM and screenshot tools
  • iterates until the task is done or max steps are reached
  • writes per-run logs to audit/

Runtime model configuration

  • base URL: https://litellm-proxy-93ef.onrender.com/v1
  • model: google/gemma-4-31B-it
  • API key env var: INFERX_API_KEY

Setup

  1. Create a virtual environment if you want one.
  2. Install the package:
pip install -e .
  1. The repo includes a local .env file. The client loads INFERX_API_KEY from it automatically.

Run

Run a task directly:

python3 -m aria "Inspect this repository and summarize the main Python entrypoints."

Or use the installed command:

aria "Add a README section describing the CLI options."

Useful options:

aria --help
aria --cwd . --audit-dir ./audit "List the top-level files and explain the project layout."
aria --verbose "Inspect the package layout and explain it"
aria --dry-run "Build a scraper and save it to CSV"
aria --max-steps 50 "Create a multi-file frontend landing page and verify it"
python3 -m aria -i

Tools

The starter includes these tools:

  • list_files
  • read_file
  • write_file
  • apply_patch
  • apply_diff
  • run_command
  • run_python
  • fetch_url
  • search_files
  • parse_code
  • search_symbol
  • playwright_open
  • playwright_get_html
  • playwright_screenshot

File editing behavior

  • apply_patch re-reads the current file before editing
  • patch operations fail if the expected old text is not present
  • write_file refuses to overwrite an existing file unless overwrite=true
  • diffs are returned for patches and overwrites when possible

Logging

Each run creates an audit/run_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS/ directory with:

  • trace.jsonl for step-by-step tool/model activity
  • summary.md for a short session summary

Brain Files

The system prompt is composed from these files in aria/brain/:

  • IDENTITY.md
  • GOAL.md
  • MEMORY.md
  • TOOLS.md
  • AGENT.md
  • STATE.md

Frontend Validation

For frontend tasks the agent now:

  • plans project structure before writing files
  • creates files separately instead of trying to emit everything at once
  • verifies written files with read_file
  • inspects rendered DOM with playwright_get_html
  • captures screenshots with playwright_screenshot
  • applies targeted HTML/CSS fixes with patches

Example task:

python3 -m aria --max-steps 50 --verbose "Build a small multi-file landing page in index.html, style.css, and script.js, then validate it with Playwright and fix obvious UI issues."

Sample workflow

aria "Create a file named notes.txt with a short project summary, then run ls and finish."

The model should plan the work, create or patch files with the tool layer, run the command, inspect the result, and then finish with a short summary.
