vscodd
Generate code file scaffolds from a prompt or the system clipboard using Google Gemini.
vscodd is a small foreground CLI. You give it a prompt (either as an argument or
by copying text to the clipboard), it asks Gemini to return a JSON list of files,
and it writes those files to a directory. As the AI responds, a live .vscodd-stream.txt
file is appended in the output directory so you can watch the answer arrive in real time.
Install
npm i -g vscoddOr run it directly without installing:
npx vscoddSetup
vscodd needs a Google Gemini API key. Get one at
https://aistudio.google.com/apikey, then:
export GEMINI_API_KEY="your-key-here"Windows (PowerShell):
$env:GEMINI_API_KEY = "your-key-here"Usage
vscodd # read prompt from the clipboard
vscodd "create a flask hello world" # use the given prompt
vscodd "build a todo app" -d ./my-app # write files to ./my-app
vscodd --no-preview # skip the live stream file
vscodd -h | --help # show helpFlags
| Flag | Description |
|-------------------|----------------------------------------------------------|
| -d <dir> | Output directory (default: current directory) |
| --no-preview | Do not write .vscodd-stream.txt |
| -h, --help | Show help and exit |
What you get in the output directory
- The generated files, in the same paths the AI returned.
.vscodd-stream.txt— the raw, unparsed AI response, written live as the model streamed it. Useful as a record of exactly what the model said. Add it to your project's.gitignoreif you don't want it in version control.
Notes
vscoddis a normal foreground CLI. It prints to your terminal, shows errors on stderr, and exits with a non-zero code on failure. It does not register hotkeys, hide its process, run detached in the background, or modify your clipboard.- If the AI returns a
package.jsonand the output directory already has one, it is overwritten — review the file before runningnpm install. - This tool is for solo development. It is not designed to bypass monitoring or impersonate human typing in another application.
