Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

vue-router-simple-auth

A simple Vue Plugin to set authorization rules before Vue Router routes.

Basic Usage

  1. Install it via package manager
$ npm i -S vue-router-simple-auth
  1. Add plugin in your main.js file
import VueRouterAuth from 'vue-router-simple-auth';

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth);
  1. Set authorization options for your routes
{
  name: 'a-route-example',
  meta: {
    auth: true,
  }
}
  1. Set storage accessToken property to a string when user logins.

Advanced usage

You can customize the plugin by passing an object with any of the following properties below as the second argument in plugin initialization:

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  route401,
  route403,
  initTimeout,
  authRouteKey,
  storage,
});

Customizing 401 e 403 routes

By default, the plugin will always will call next(Error) in beforeRouteEnter() guard. If you want to customize the routes called in next(), set any of properties below:

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  route401: '/error-unauthorized',
  route403: '/error-forbidden,
});

Both options above accept a route path (string) or a route object, i.e. { name: 'error-route' }

The option route403 is not required if you are not using scopes validation.

Customizing storage

By default, the plugin will look for an accessToken property in localStorage. If you want to customize the default storage, set the property below:

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  storage: window.sessionStorage, // using sessionStorage as an example
});

You can also pass a function instead an object to storage option. So, the plugin will call it and will expect an object result, i.e.:

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  storage: () => {
    return window.sessionStorage;
  }
});

Customizing timeout

By default, if the storage is undefined, the plugin will await some time (3 seconds) and try again to get the storage. Then, if the storage still is null, it will trigger next(Error). If you want to customize this timeout, set the property below:

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  initTimeout: 8000, // in milliseconds
});

Customizing route's meta property key

By default, the plugin will look for a property named auth inside route's meta. If you want to customize this property key name, set the property below:

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  authRouteKey: 'requiresAuth'
});

Full example

Vue.use(VueRouterAuth, {
  route401: '/unauthorized',
  route403: { path: '/unauthorized' },
  initTimeout: 5000,
  authRouteKey: 'authorization',
  storage: () => window.sessionStorage,
});
